Romansh is a Romance language which is spoken by a small population in the region of Switzerland. Romansh is also known as the Rhaeto-Romance language and has its roots in the ancient Roman Empire. There are multiple synonyms for Romansh, including Romansch, Rhaeto-Romansch, and Rumantsch. It's spoken predominantly in the cantons of Graubünden, Ticino, and Zug. Historically, there were five different regional dialects of Romansh, but today, there are only three main dialects left. The Romansh language has been standardized for written publications by the Romansh-speaking Swiss cantons and is one of the four official languages of Switzerland.
