Rudapithecus, a genus of extinct primates that lived in Africa between 10 and 12 million years ago, is sometimes referred to by a number of different synonyms. Some scientists use the term Dryopithecus, a name that was first coined in 1856 to describe another group of extinct primates that lived in Europe during the Miocene epoch. Others use the name Sivapithecus, a genus of extinct primates that lived in Asia during the Miocene. Some experts also use the name Khoratpithecus, which is a genus of extinct apes that lived in Thailand about 9 to 10 million years ago. Despite having different names, all these primates are part of the same evolutionary family tree.
