Scheelite, a mineral containing tungsten, is also known by several other names. This includes calcium tungstate, tungstic acid calcium salt, and scheelium. In addition, it is sometimes called blue scheelite or yellow scheelite, depending on the color of its crystals. The mineral was named after Carl Wilhelm Scheele, a Swedish chemist who first identified tungsten in 1781. Scheelite is commonly found in granites and can often be found alongside other minerals such as wolframite, cassiterite, and fluorite. Because of its unique properties, scheelite is used in a variety of industries, including the production of cemented carbides, steel alloys, and fluorescent light bulbs.
