A screw wrench or a spanner is an important tool for tightening or loosening bolts or nuts. It is commonly used in the automobile industry and other manufacturing plants. The term screw wrench is often used interchangeably with spanner, open-end wrench, or box wrench. A spanner has two jaws whereas an open-end wrench has one and box wrench has six or twelve points of contact, which can provide more torque and grip to the nut. Ratchet wrenches are another type of screw wrench that allows the user to tighten or loosen without removing the wrench from the bolt. Other related synonyms are socket wrench, torque wrench, Allen wrench, and crescent wrench.
