Smoking is one of the most harmful habits affecting health and well-being. Besides smokers, there are many alternative words used to describe people who smoke. Such words include, tobacco user, cigarette smoker, nicotine addict, chain-smoker, cigar aficionado, and hookah user. Each of these words carries a different weight and implication. The term tobacco user provides a broader sense, while cigarette smoker is specific. Nicotine addict and chain-smoker conveys a compulsive nature overuse of smoking. Cigar aficionado tends to be associated with a more affluent lifestyle, while hookah user is associated with Middle Eastern traditions. To discourage smoking, initiatives have further encouraged society to use less endearing synonyms to label or refer to smokers.
