Sound pollution, sometimes referred to as noise pollution, can be a major hindrance to our quality of life. A few synonyms for sound pollution include auditory pollution, sonal contamination, acoustic disturbance, and noise nuisance. With city life increasingly filtering into rural areas, it has become increasingly difficult to find areas of natural serenity free of these sounds. Construction work, sirens, loud music and other sources of excess noise contribute to sound pollution. Recently, sound pollution in many areas has been intensified even more due to the growing presence of motor vehicles on our streets. Although it may seem like a minor issue, sound pollution can have a profound impact on our health, focus, and overall well-being.
