Spirula, a genus of deep-sea squid characterized by its unique coiled shell, also goes by several synonyms. These include Planispirula, Nautilus spirula, and Ammonites spirula, as its shell is reminiscent of the nautilus and ammonite. Other similar names used are Volutospirula and Eolipile spirula.
