St. James the Apostle, also known as James the Greater, was one of the twelve disciples of Jesus Christ. His name has been synonymously used with various other titles throughout history, including St. James Son of Zebedee, St. James the Elder, and St. James the Big. In Spain, he is commonly referred to as Santiago, while in Portuguese, he is known as Tiago. St. James the Apostle is also sometimes referred to as the Patron Saint of Spain due to his association with the legendary Camino de Santiago pilgrimage.
