Stellarator, a device used in nuclear fusion research, has been in use since the 1950s. There are several synonyms for this term, including Helically Symmetric Experiment (HSX), Compact Helical System (CHS), and Wendelstein 7-X (W7-X). HSX was developed in the early 2000s in the United States as an alternative to the traditional tokamak design. CHS, developed in Japan, also uses a helical magnetic field to confine plasma. W7-X, developed in Germany, is the largest and most advanced stellarator, with the potential to achieve sustainable nuclear fusion. Despite being a less well-known technology than tokamaks, stellarators continue to hold great promise for advancing fusion energy research.
