The European Economic Community, or the EEC, was an international organization that operated from 1957 to 1993. It was established with the aim of creating a common economic market among its member countries. The EEC was also known by other names such as the Common Market, the European Community, and the EC. In 1993, the EEC was transformed into the European Union (EU), which now comprises 27 member states. Although the EEC no longer exists, it played a significant role in the economic and political integration of Europe, laying the foundation for the modern-day EU.
