Therm is a unit of heat energy commonly used in discussions of thermodynamics. However, there are several other words that can be used interchangeably with the word therm such as calorie, BTU, Joule, kilojoule, megajoule, and kilocalorie. Calorie is the amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of one gram of water by one degree Celsius. On the other hand, BTU or British Thermal Unit is used to describe energy needed to raise the temperature of one pound of water by one degree Fahrenheit.
