Tussilago is a genus of flowering plants in the Asteraceae family, also known as the daisy family. This group of plants is commonly called coltsfoot, which is a synonym for tussilago. Other synonyms for tussilago include coughwort, which is derived from the plant's traditional medicinal use for coughs, and sweet coltsfoot, which refers to the plant's sweet tasting leaves. In some regions, tussilago is also known as son-before-the-father, as the plant's yellow flowers appear before the leaves. Tussilago roots have also been used as a source of dye, producing a range of orange and yellow hues.
