Vaccinium arboreum, also known as the farkleberry, is a small tree native to the southeastern United States that produces small edible berries. It is often used for its medicinal properties to treat ailments such as diarrhea, dysentery, and kidney problems. In addition to farkleberry, other common names for Vaccinium arboreum include sparkleberry, tree huckleberry, Florida sparkleberry, and gumdrop tree. These synonyms reflect the tree's characteristic shiny foliage and brightly colored berries. Farkleberry, however, is the most widely used name and is derived from the Scottish word "farkle" meaning to look or function poorly, reflecting the plant's potential as a pain-reliever.
