Wilms tumour, also known as nephroblastoma, is a rare type of kidney cancer that primarily affects children. This tumour typically appears in one kidney, although it can appear in both kidneys in some cases. While there are currently no known synonyms for the term Wilms tumour, there are other terms used in the medical community when referring to this type of cancer. These include triphasic nephroblastoma, mesoblastic nephroma, and clear cell sarcoma of the kidney. While all of these may refer to similar tumours in the kidney, they each have their distinct characteristics and treatment options.
