Wilms' tumour, also known as nephroblastoma, is a rare type of cancer that primarily affects children. It usually appears in just one kidney but it can occur in both. The tumour typically arises from immature kidney cells that fail to fully develop into mature cells. Although it is a rare condition, there are some synonyms that can be used for Wilms' tumour such as childhood renal tumour, embryonic kidney tumour, or renal blastoma. Early detection and treatment is key when it comes to managing Wilms' tumour, and the prognosis is generally good for children with this disease as long as the cancer is found and treated promptly.
