Xanthoma, a condition caused by a buildup of fat in the skin, is also known as xanthelasma or yellow plaque. Xanthelasma appears as yellow, raised lumps on the eyelids and is often a warning sign of high cholesterol or other lipid disorders. Other synonyms for xanthoma include xanthogranuloma, foam cell tumor, and lipid histiocytosis, which are all related to the excess accumulation of lipids in the skin.
