Zamburak, also known as Jazail, was a type of mobile artillery used in nineteenth-century warfare. The word Zamburak has its origin in the Persian language, meaning hornet or wasp. Some synonyms for the word Zamburak include mountain gun, mountain howitzer or mountain cannon, reflecting its use in hilly terrain. Other related words include Jezail, a type of long-barreled rifle used by tribesmen in Afghanistan, and camel gun, a smaller version of the Zamburak specifically designed to be used while riding a camel. Despite its relative obscurity in modern warfare, the Zamburak played a significant role in shaping the tactics and strategies of nineteenth-century military commanders.
