Asperger Syndrome is now classified under the umbrella term of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5). However, some people still use the term Asperger Syndrome to describe an individual with a high-functioning form of autism. As such, different terms have been used interchangeably with Asperger Syndrome, including Asperger's, Asperger Disorder, and Asperger's disorder. Other synonyms that have been used include Autism Spectrum Condition, Pervasive Development Disorder, and High-Functioning Autism. These terms describe a condition where an individual may have difficulties with social interaction, communication, and repetitive behaviors but still possess above-average intelligence and talents in specific areas.
