Aspergers Syndrome, also known as Asperger's Disorder, is a neurological condition that affects social interaction, communication, and non-verbal communication. It is commonly referred to as a form of autism and was once identified as a distinct disorder. However, in 2013, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) eliminated Aspergers Syndrome as a separate diagnosis, instead including it under the broader category of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Some other terms used for Aspergers Syndrome include high-functioning autism, autistic intelligence, or simply autism. Regardless of the terminology used, individuals with Aspergers Syndrome may experience challenges in their daily lives but can also possess unique strengths and abilities.
