Assisted suicide, also known as physician-assisted suicide or assisted dying, refers to the act of deliberately helping an individual end their life. However, the term "assisted suicide" is quite controversial and has negative connotations associated with it. Therefore, there are various synonyms that have been coined to refer to this practice. Some of these include voluntary euthanasia, right to die, death with dignity, mercy killing, self-deliverance, and aid in dying. These terms are considered more neutral and are used by proponents of the practice to remove the stigma associated with it. Nevertheless, assisted suicide remains a highly divisive issue across the world.
