The barren ground caribou, also known as the tundra caribou, is a type of caribou found in the Arctic and subarctic regions of North America. In addition to the common name, there are several synonyms for this species. These include the Arctic caribou, which refers to their habitat and range, the Peary caribou, which is a subspecies found in the Canadian arctic islands, the Porcupine caribou, which refers to a specific herd found in Alaska and Yukon, and the Grant's caribou, which is a subspecies found in northern Canada.
