Bishop pine is a species of pine tree that is native to California, specifically along the coast. This type of tree is also known by several other names including Monterey pine, Santa Cruz pine and pinus muricata. Bishop pine trees grow to be very large, with an average height of around 70 feet, and can live for over two centuries. They are often found in forests and can be identified by their unique, twisted needles which grow in pairs. Bishop pine trees have historically been used for lumber and paper production, but are now under protection due to their importance in the ecosystem and their vulnerability to climate change.
