The Celebes flying fox is a large bat species that feeds on fruits and nectar, native to Indonesia's Sulawesi Island. The species is also known by the scientific name Pteropus celebensis. The bat is often referred to as the Sulawesi flying fox, the Black-bearded flying fox, or the Makasar flying fox. The species is identified by its distinctive appearance, with long, pointed ears, dark fur, and a wingspan of up to 1.5 meters. As an important pollinator and seed disperser, the Celebes flying fox is critical to the ecological balance of its habitat. Unfortunately, due to habitat loss and hunting, the species is currently classified as vulnerable by IUCN.
