Chirrs are the soft, high-pitched sounds that birds and insects make. However, there are many synonyms that describe similar noises made by animals and even machines. For example, buzzes, hums, whirs, and purrs all describe low, continuous sounds. Swarms of insects might cause whines or drones, while a group of birds could produce cheeps or tweets. Engines and motors can also make chirr-like noises, such as the purring of a car engine or the whirring of a fan. Regardless of the source, these various sounds all lend a certain background hum to our daily lives.
