Dry leprosy is a chronic condition of the skin and nervous system caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium leprae. There are several synonyms for dry leprosy, including tuberculoid leprosy, paucibacillary leprosy, and indeterminate leprosy. Diagnosis of the disease is made based on the characteristic lesions, limited distribution, and the presence of acid-fast bacilli in skin smears. Treatment typically involves a multidrug regimen and management of complications, such as nerve damage. Despite significant progress in the control of the disease, its social stigma and related discrimination continue to pose challenges for the affected individuals and communities.
