The family Sagittariidae, also known as the Sagittarius family, includes only one genus: Sagittarius. This family is commonly referred to as the secretarybird family due to its most well-known member, the secretarybird (Sagittarius serpentarius). However, there are a few other members of the family, including the red-necked spurfowl (Pternistis afer) and the Heuglin's spurfowl (Pternistis icterorhynchus). These birds are typically found in sub-Saharan Africa, and are known for their distinctive plumage, long legs, and powerful ability to hunt and chase prey on the ground. The Sagittarius family is an important part of African wildlife and adds to the biodiversity of the areas in which they reside.
