Genus Antidorcas, also known as the springbok, is a species of antelope found in Southern Africa. The word "antelope" is often used as a synonym for this genus, as they are part of the Bovidae family. Other synonyms include the "springer," "jumping buck," or simply the "bok." In Afrikaans, the language commonly spoken in South Africa, it is known as "springbokkie." The springbok is known for its distinct jumping and "pronking" behavior, making it a popular species to observe on safari tours. However, despite being a well-known symbol of South Africa, the species is currently listed as "Least Concern" on the IUCN Red List, meaning it is not considered to be facing any major threats to its survival.
