Genus Antigonia is a group of fish that belong to the family Caproidae. These fish are primarily found in the deep waters of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. The most common synonym for Genus Antigonia is the bulldog fish, named for the distinctive shape of their head and jaws. Other synonyms for this group of fish include the bigscale, or scalefin, due to their large, prominent scales, and the spotted antitail, named for the black spots on their caudal fins. Despite their intimidating appearance, bulldog fish are not typically harmful to humans and are commonly caught as game fish.
