The Genus Antilocapra is a group of mammals commonly known as antelopes, which are found in North America. The genus consists of one extant species, the pronghorn antelope, which is also called the American antelope. Pronghorn antelopes are well-known for their striking appearance and remarkable speed, being able to run at speeds of up to 60 miles per hour. Although there are no synonyms for the Genus Antilocapra itself, there are synonyms for the pronghorn antelope, including the prairie antelope, the pronghorned antelope, and the Old World antelope. Despite its name, the pronghorn antelope is not a true antelope, but rather a unique species that has no close living relatives.
