The Genus Centropus, otherwise known as Coucal, is a diverse group of bird species categorized in the cuckoo family. These birds comprise around 33 species recognizable by their long, curved beaks, rounded wings, and relatively short tails. This bird genus includes well-known birds like the black-billed coucal, white-browed coucal, and the yellow-billed coucal. The term "centropus" is derived from the Greek words 'kentron,' which means 'sharp point,' and 'pous,' which means 'foot.' Some other synonyms for this genus include Coucalus, Cuculus, and Centrococcyx. Despite having a wide range of variations in characteristics, all the species in this genus share the unique ability to mimic other bird sounds and calls.
