Genus Cephalopterus is a group of birds in the family Cotingidae that are commonly referred to as umbrellabirds. Some synonyms that can be used for this group of birds include umbrella birds, hooded cotingas, and shovel-billed cotingas. These birds are well known for their unique appearance, characterized by a large, dark crested head and a broad, rounded tail. Although they are native to the rainforests of South America, they have also been spotted in some parts of Central America. Due to habitat destruction and other human activities, many species within the genus Cephalopterus are now at risk of extinction.
