Genus Cephalotaxus, also known as the plum yew, is a small group of evergreen conifers native to eastern Asia. The plant has various synonyms which include Cephalotaxaceae, Plum Yew Family, Plum Yew, Cowtail Pine, or Japanese Plum Yew. Although often referred to as a yew, it is not in the same genus as the yew tree (Taxus), but is instead in the ancient, highly basal conifer family Cephalotaxaceae. The plum yew is a slow-growing plant that can reach up to 15 meters high and is commonly used in landscaping and horticulture due to its attractive foliage. It is also used in traditional medicine in China and Japan for its anti-inflammatory and antitumor properties.
