Genus Meryta is a group of evergreen trees and shrubs found in the Pacific region. It was named in honor of Dr. Michel Adanson's friend and fellow botanist, Charles Marie Boutelou. Some synonyms for the Genus Meryta are the Pelea cinerea, Pelea rubra, and the Pelea sapida. These species of plants share similar characteristics, including leathery leaves, small flowers, and edible fruit. They are often found in tropical areas and are commonly used for ornamental purposes. Although they are not widely known to many people, Genus Meryta has a significant role in the biodiversity of the Pacific and should be valued and protected.
