Genus Mycteria is a taxonomic group of birds that belong to the family Ciconiidae. These species are commonly known as Wood Storks due to their preference for wooded environments. Other synonyms that may be used to refer to these birds include Siabelia, Xenorhynchus, and Ibis Mycteria. Despite their name, Wood Storks are not actually closely related to true storks and have been classified in their own distinct genus. They are known for their unique appearance, with a bald head and long, curved bill, and are found throughout Central and South America as well as the southern United States.
