Guevina Heterophylla, also known as the Chilean hazelnut or avellano, has a variety of different synonyms in different regions and languages. In Spanish, it is also referred to as chilco or avellano chileno, while in English it can be called the Chilean nut or Chilean hazel. In Mapudungun, an indigenous language of Chile and Argentina, the tree is known as maki or küne. The nuts themselves are sometimes referred to as avelines or hazelnuts, although they have a unique flavor that sets them apart from other nuts in the hazelnut family. Regardless of what it is called, Guevina Heterophylla is a valuable and delicious tree that is found throughout Chile and parts of Argentina.
