Gustation refers to the sense of taste, which allows us to differentiate between sweet, sour, bitter, salty and umami flavors of foods. The opposite of gustation is anosmia, which refers to the loss of the sense of smell, making it difficult to distinguish flavors. Additionally, hyposmia refers to a decreased sense of smell. Conversely, the antonym of gustation could also be olfaction, which refers to the sense of smell. This is because the sense of smell is directly linked to the sense of taste, and when we say food has no taste, it usually means that it has no smell. Therefore, gustation and olfaction are two separate but interrelated senses.
