Haemophilia B is a genetic disorder caused by a deficiency in clotting factor IX. It is also known as Christmas disease, named after the first patient who was diagnosed with it. Other synonyms for Haemophilia B include Factor IX deficiency, Congenital Factor IX Deficiency, and Factor IX Hemophilia. The disease is a lifelong condition that predominantly affects males. Symptoms include excessive bleeding after injury or surgery, joint pain and swelling, and prolonged bleeding after tooth extraction. There is currently no cure for Haemophilia B, but treatment options such as clotting factor replacement therapy and gene therapy can help manage the disease and improve quality of life for those affected.
