Icteria virens is a bird species belonging to the New World warbler family. It is commonly known as the yellow-breasted chat due to its striking yellow plumage on its chest. However, there are also several other names that are often used interchangeably to refer to this species, including yellow chat, eastern yellow-breasted chat, swamp chat, and yellow mockinbird. These names highlight the unique characteristics of these birds, such as their vocalizations which sound similar to a mockingbird. Despite the different names, all these synonyms refer to the same species of bird that can be found throughout North and Central America, from Canada to Mexico.
