Infantile Amaurotic Idiocy is a rare genetic disorder that affects the nervous system. It is also called as Niemann-Pick disease. There are many synonyms for this condition, such as Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis, Childhood Dementia, Batten Disease, and Juvenile Nervous System Degeneration. The symptoms of this disease can vary, but typically include loss of eyesight, loss of motor function, seizures, and mental retardation. This disease is hereditary and there is currently no known cure. Treatment only focuses on the management of the symptoms. Early diagnosis and intervention can be helpful for individuals affected by this condition, but unfortunately, it is often difficult to diagnose before the onset of symptoms.
