Leydigs cells are the primary cells found in the interstitial tissue of the testis. These cells are responsible for producing and secreting androgens, the male sex hormones. Leydigs cells are also known as interstitial cells of Leydig and interstitial of the testis. They play a crucial role in male reproductive function, such as the development and maintenance of male sexual characteristics, including the growth of the prostate gland and the testes. In addition to Leydigs cell, other synonyms commonly used to refer to these cells include Leydig cell tumor, testicular interstitial cell tumor, and interstitial-cell tumor. Regardless of the term used, these cells are vital components in the functioning of the male reproductive system.
