Lufengpithecus, also known as the Lufeng monkey or Lufeng man, is an extinct genus of primates that lived during the Miocene epoch. There are several synonyms for the word "Lufengpithecus" that have been used interchangeably in scientific literature, including Sivapithecus lufengensis, Ankarapithecus lufengensis, and Ramapithecus lufengensis. These names were used in the past to describe different species of primates that were eventually grouped under the Lufengpithecus genus. The fossils of Lufengpithecus have been discovered in China, Turkey, and India and provide valuable evidence for the evolutionary history of hominins and their close relatives.
