The omasum is a digestive organ found in ruminants such as cows and buffalo. There are several synonyms for the omasum such as the 'manyplies', 'book stomach', or the 'reed' in different languages. The name 'manyplies' refers to the fact that the omasum features many folds, each of which looks like many comb-like structures. The term 'book stomach' alludes to the overall function of the organ which is to filter and absorb any remaining nutrients from the food that has been chewed and partially broken down in the rumen and reticulum.
