Pamlico is a Native American tribe located in eastern North Carolina in the United States. The name "Pamlico" has several synonyms including "Pomouik," "Pawmuco," and "Pomeiooc." The tribe's language called Pamlico is now extinct, and records of it remain only in the accounts of early European explorers. Some other synonyms for Pamlico include Turnages and Coree. The Pamlico people were hunters and gatherers, and they also cultivated crops, including maize, beans, and squash. Their traditional way of life was disrupted by European settlement, and the tribe's population declined rapidly due to disease and conflict. Today, there are no known descendants of the Pamlico tribe.
