Pre-destination is a principle in theology, philosophy, and literature that asserts that the choices and outcomes in life are predetermined by a higher power, fate, or other factors beyond human control. The opposite of pre-destination is free will, which holds that individuals have the agency to make choices and shape their own destiny. Rather than being pre-ordained by a higher power or fate, people have the ability to act and choose for themselves. This concept is related to ideas of determinism and indeterminism, which respectively argue that either everything in the world is predetermined or that some things have no pre-existing cause and are entirely random.
