Pulmonary fibrosis, a respiratory disease, is a chronic condition that causes scarring of lung tissue leading to shortness of breath and fatigue. This disease is also known as interstitial lung disease, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis or fibrotic lung disease. Other synonyms used for pulmonary fibrosis include cryptogenic fibrosing alveolitis, diffuse interstitial pulmonary fibrosis, and pneumoconiosis. These synonyms are often used interchangeably to describe the same disease, and the severity of the symptoms can vary greatly between individuals. Although there is currently no cure for pulmonary fibrosis, treatment options can help manage the symptoms and improve the quality of life for those affected by the disease.
