The red squirrel, also known as the Eurasian red squirrel or Sciurus vulgaris, is a small mammal that inhabits forests across Eurasia. While it is often referred to simply as the red squirrel, there are several other synonyms for this species. In Ireland and the United Kingdom, it is sometimes referred to as the "native squirrel," while in North America it is sometimes called the "pine squirrel." The species is also known as the "Scottish squirrel" or the "Lancashire squirrel" in different regions. Regardless of the name, these squirrels are characterized by their reddish-brown or grey fur, distinctive ear tufts, and playful behavior.
