Sandfly fever is a viral disease that is transmitted through the bite of sandflies. It is commonly known as Pappataci fever, Phlebotomus fever, or Arbovirus fever. The disease is prevalent in many parts of the world, including the Mediterranean, Middle East, Africa, and South and Central America. Symptoms of sandfly fever include fever, headache, muscle pain, and fatigue, and the disease is usually self-limiting, lasting from 2 to 7 days. While there is currently no specific treatment for sandfly fever, symptomatic relief can be provided through the use of pain relievers and fever reducers. To prevent sandfly fever, travelers to endemic areas should avoid outdoor activities during peak sandfly activity times and use insect repellents.
