Androgyny refers to a blend of masculine and feminine characteristics that exist in an individual. Some synonyms for androgyny include genderqueer, queer, nonbinary, and gender-neutral. All of these terms represent the idea that gender identity and expression cannot be limited to a binary system of male or female. Other synonyms that are sometimes used in place of androgyny are male/female ambiguous and gender-variant.
