Pan-pipe, also known as the pan flute, is a musical instrument that creates a unique, melodious sound. While it is commonly called a pan-pipe, there are several other synonyms. These include syrinx, ney, chifonie, kuvytsi, and quenacho.
The term syrinx is derived from Greek mythology, where it refers to the nymph who was transformed into a set of reeds. Similarly, the ney is an Arabic flute made from reed. The chifonie is a pan-flute with a slightly curved shape. The kuvytsi is a Ukrainian pan-flute used in traditional folk music. Lastly, the quenacho is a large, South American pan-flute that is carved from bamboo or wood.
