Paratyphoid fever, also known as paraenteric fever, is a type of bacterial infection caused by Salmonella Paratyphi. The disease is commonly found in developing countries like South Asia where poor sanitation and hygiene are rampant. Other synonyms for paratyphoid fever include enteric fever, typhoid fever, and abdominal typhus. The symptoms of paratyphoid fever are similar to typhoid fever including fever, headache, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. However, paratyphoid fever tends to be milder than typhoid fever, with a shorter duration and lower mortality rate. Treatment for paratyphoid fever involves antibiotics and bed rest. Prevention is key, and maintaining good sanitation and hygiene practices is essential.
